Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed one person and burnt a church and a car during an attack on Bala-Tela village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community in large numbers, firing indiscriminately as they rode into the village on motorcycles.
The latest assault marks the second attack on Bala-Tela since April, when gunmen killed 29 people in a deadly raid on the community.
During the April 26 attack, the assailants reportedly opened fire on residents who had gathered to watch a local football match. The sudden shooting left 29 people dead.
Bala-Tela lies in Gombi Local Government Area, which shares a boundary with Hong Local Government Area. Both communities have suffered repeated attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
The latest incident adds to a series of deadly assaults in the area in recent months. On September 7, suspected insurgents attacked Dzangula, another community in Gombi, killing 12 people.
The repeated attacks have heightened concerns over the security of rural communities in Adamawa, particularly those located around Gombi and neighbouring Hong.
During the Bala-Tela raid, the attackers reportedly set fire to a church building and a vehicle, alongside other property. Details of the full extent of the destruction remain unclear.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack.
Boko Haram has waged an insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East for more than a decade, with attacks affecting communities across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
Adamawa has continued to face security challenges linked to insurgent violence, particularly in communities close to areas frequently targeted by armed groups.
