Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has received an award from the Nigerian community in recognition of improved consular services under his leadership.
The award came during a ceremony organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) in Qatar to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The event attracted members of the diplomatic community and the Executive Director of the Workers Support and Insurance Fund under Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, Ms Kholoud Saif Al Kubaisi.
The Nigerian community recognised Yakubu for improving services to citizens, particularly the processing and delivery of passports.
Hundreds of Nigerians in Qatar recently received their new passports within two weeks, a development that highlighted the improved pace of consular operations.
Yakubu commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, for their roles in the intervention.
He praised both officials for promptly deploying an intervention team and facilitating passport production, which enabled Nigerians in Qatar to obtain their travel documents within the record period.
The recognition reflects the Nigerian community’s appreciation of efforts to address passport delays and improve access to consular services abroad.
