SAMOA Agreement: SDP Chairman Calls For Calm, Understanding Among Nigerians

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Gabam, has appealed for calm and understanding among Nigerians amidst the controversy surrounding the SAMOA agreement.

In a statement released on Monday, he urged citizens to remain calm and emphasized that Nigeria is their only home.

Alhaji Gabam commended the public for their strong opposition to the agreement, which reflects their commitment to upholding religious, cultural, and traditional values based on high moral principles and standards.

He acknowledged the government’s efforts to address the country’s challenges but cautioned against accepting “Greek gifts” that may compromise Nigeria’s sovereignty and sanctity.

Instead, he urged the federal government to prioritize building trust with the people by fulfilling its promises of providing better socioeconomic opportunities and ensuring a secure environment. He warned against exploiting the country’s resources without benefiting the masses, leading to a loss of purpose, ambition, and determination to achieve greatness.

Alhaji Gabam’s statement comes amid concerns that the SAMOA agreement may introduce LGBTQ practices into the country, which the federal government has denied. The agreement aims to promote economic cooperation and development between the European Union and African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries.

By urging calm and emphasizing the importance of upholding Nigerian values, Alhaji Gabam’s statement seeks to reassure the public and encourage the government to prioritize their needs and concerns. He encourages a balanced approach that promotes economic development while preserving cultural and religious values.
