AICIS 2025: Stakeholders to Address Challenges of Climate Change, Infrastructure Gaps
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

In a bid to confront the pressing issues of climate change and infrastructure gaps, stakeholders gathered in Abuja on Monday for a Stakeholders Engagement and Global Press Briefing ahead of the Africa Infrastructure, Climate Change, and Investment Summit 2025 (AICIS 2025).
In his remarks, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, emphasized the importance of the summit in positioning Africa as an active participant in its own development.
Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Political, and Economic Affairs Office(OSGF), Engr. Nadungu Gagare, said the summit aims to provide a collaborative platform for African nations to develop actionable strategies for sustainable development.
“As the world intensifies action to tackle the twin challenges of climate change and infrastructure gaps, Africa must not be a passive recipient of solutions but an active architect of its own sustainable development,” Akume stated.
Scheduled to take place from August 11 to 14, 2025, at Nikon Luxury in Abuja, AICIS 2025 will unite government officials, private sector investors, technical experts, civil society organizations, and the diplomatic community.
“This summit provides a continental platform to articulate, align, and activate collaborative strategies for resilient infrastructure and climate action across Africa,” the SGF added.
He noted that the summit aligns with the priorities of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, which has focused on strategic infrastructure development, energy transition, environmental sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.
“These priorities underscore Nigeria’s readiness to lead and collaborate on multi-stakeholder approaches toward climate resilience and development financing,” he noted.
Akume also called on all stakeholders to pool resources and harmonize policies. “This is an opportunity to reassert Africa’s voice and agency in the global climate discourse, ensuring our unique challenges and comparative advantages are well represented in shaping global solutions,” he emphasized.
The SGF therefore reiterated the Federal Government’s support for the summit and encouraged all stakeholders to engage actively in the discussions.
“Together, we will transition from ambition to action, from victory to resilience,” he concluded.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Summit, Moses Owharo, highlighted the summit’s objectives.
“AICIS 2025 is a landmark gathering that affirms Africa’s unified determination to address climate change through resilient infrastructure and strategic investment,” Owharo stated.
He outlined the summit’s goals, which include mobilizing support, reinforcing alignment with the summit’s pillars of green infrastructure, climate resilience, gender inclusion, and bankable investment partnerships.
According to the Chairman, the summit also places a strong emphasis on gender inclusion, with the Ministry of Women Affairs actively involved in the planning process.
“No transformative agenda can be achieved without empowering women and integrating their voices into development and climate solutions,” Gagare remarked.
