INEC Records 9.8m Pre-Registrations as First Quarter CVR Ends December 10

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the first quarter of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will close on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after 13 weeks of activity that have so far produced 9,891,801 online pre-registrations across the country.

According to a statement yesterday by the Commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, a total of 2,572,054 registrations have been fully completed; including 1,503,832 online completions and 1,068,222 physical registrations, as of November 28, 2025.

Eta-Messi also announced that INEC will commence the Display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections from December 15 to 21, 2025, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022. The display will take place at all Local Government Offices where the exercise is ongoing.

She urged eligible citizens particularly those who registered, transferred, or updated their details in the first quarter to use the statutory window to verify their information, correct inaccuracies, and flag ineligible or deceased persons. Public participation in this stage, she said, is essential to safeguarding the integrity of the voters’ register.

INEC further reminded the public that CVR activities in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remain suspended due to ongoing electoral processes in those locations. New dates for resumption will be announced later.

The Commission noted that the second phase of the CVR will resume nationwide on January 5, 2026, in accordance with the previously released schedule.

Reaffirming its commitment to a credible, inclusive, and transparent voter register, INEC appealed for continued cooperation from Nigerians “as we work together to strengthen our democracy.”
