FRSC Averts Disaster as Fuel Tanker Crashes in Kaduna
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

Personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have averted a major disaster following a lone fuel tanker crash at the NEPA Roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026, when a loaded tanker fell at the busy roundabout, raising fears of a possible fire outbreak and secondary crashes.
In a statement signed on Sunday by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC said the Kaduna Sector Command received a distress call at about 7:15 a.m. and immediately mobilised a rescue team to the scene.
The rescue operation was led by the Deputy Route Commander, I. Gunda, under the RS1.1 Kaduna Sector general operation area.
According to the statement, FRSC personnel promptly secured the accident scene by closing all roads leading to the fallen tanker to prevent further crashes and eliminate the risk of fire.
Traffic was also diverted to alternative routes to ensure smooth vehicular movement and minimise congestion within the Kaduna metropolis.
The statement noted that personnel of the Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police Force were on ground, working alongside the FRSC to ensure public safety, while efforts were ongoing to safely evacuate the fuel content and remove the tanker from the road.
“No casualty was recorded as at the time of this report,” the Corps said.

The FRSC commended road users for their cooperation during the operation and urged motorists to remain calm, obey traffic directives and exercise patience as recovery efforts continue.
It reiterated its commitment to proactive emergency response, effective traffic management and the protection of lives and property on Nigerian roads.
