The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspects over the alleged armed robbery of a consignment of mobile phones and accessories valued at about N100 million in Ogun State.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) following a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police by Sanniphil Company over the robbery.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement signed on Saturday.

According to the statement, STS operatives commenced a discreet investigation on August 10, following the petition, and subsequently arrested the suspects in Ogun State.

The robbery reportedly occurred on August 5 at about 7pm when the suspects allegedly attacked a company vehicle transporting mobile phones and accessories from Lagos to Onitsha.

The gang reportedly made away with the consignment, which the police said was worth approximately N100 million.

Those arrested were Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.

Police said 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects and registered as exhibits.

The investigation is continuing, with operatives working to track down other members of the alleged gang and recover the remaining stolen items.

The police assured businesses and members of the public of its continued efforts to combat violent crime and protect commercial activities across the country.
