Tragedy struck in Abuja as a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) lost her life during a training simulation exercise involving operational vehicles.
The incident occurred during what was described as a coordinated show-of-force drill by the corps. Eyewitness footage circulating on social media showed the moment the officer was knocked down and run over by a patrol vehicle attempting to make a turn as part of the exercise.
In the video, the vehicle appeared to be moving in formation when it struck the officer. It later came to a halt as fellow personnel and bystanders rushed to the scene. Some officers were seen lifting the vehicle in a frantic effort to rescue her from underneath. Emergency responders arrived shortly after and evacuated her.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the NSCDC, Afolabi Babawale, said the corps had indeed lost one of its personnel during the drill.
“It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” Babawale said.
The identity of the deceased officer had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report.
