Former Reps Member Dumps APC for ADC After Resigning as Akpabio’s Aide

Patty Etete

A former member of the House of Representatives, Patty Etete, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), barely weeks after stepping down as a senior legislative aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Etete announced his resignation from the APC in a letter dated March 14 and addressed to the party’s chairman in Ward 1 of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

In the letter, the former lawmaker attributed his decision to unresolved internal issues within the ruling party.

“Due to unresolved differences, including interference, exclusion and strange experiences within the party, I hereby resign from the APC with immediate effect,” he wrote.

The defection comes less than three weeks after Etete stepped down from his position as a senior legislative aide in the office of the Senate President.

In a separate resignation letter dated February 26, he described his exit from Akpabio’s office as “long overdue,” alleging that he had endured years of humiliation, discrimination and limited access to the Senate President.

Etete, who represented the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011, said he had accepted what he described as a downgraded designation in the Senate President’s office in good faith.

However, he said the work environment gradually became increasingly difficult, ultimately forcing him to step aside from the role.

The former legislator confirmed on Monday that he had now formally joined the ADC, marking a new chapter in his political career after leaving the APC.
