Military Airstrikes Suyanise Scores of Terrorists in Sambisa Forest

The Nigerian military has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing counter-insurgency operations, following airstrikes that eliminated scores of suspected terrorists in the Sambisa axis of Borno State.

The operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai after intelligence reports pointed to the presence of insurgents within the Parisu area of the forest.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the mission was executed late Friday night, with an air platform deployed for reconnaissance and subsequent strike operations.

“At about 9:00 p.m., the aircraft conducted an armed reconnaissance over the location and established visual contact with suspected terrorists moving within the area,” a source said.

The surveillance reportedly showed the insurgents moving in a coordinated manner before gathering around a concealed structure hidden under thick vegetation.

According to the source, the aircrew maintained close monitoring of the group and tracked them to their hideout before launching a precision strike.

“The strike was accurately delivered, leading to the destruction of the structure and neutralisation of multiple terrorists at the location,” the source added.

Further assessment revealed that some insurgents fled from nearby hideouts following the initial strike, prompting a follow-up operation.

“The platform tracked the fleeing terrorists and carried out another strike on a second identified hideout, further degrading their capability,” the source said, noting that additional targets were destroyed during the operation.

The strikes took place within the Sambisa Forest, a long-standing stronghold for insurgent groups in Nigeria’s North-East.

Military sources said the operation highlights increased aerial surveillance and precision targeting capability, aimed at denying insurgents freedom of movement within the forest and surrounding areas.

The latest offensive is part of a broader coordinated effort between air and ground forces to dismantle terrorist enclaves and restore security across the region.
