2027: Only APC Has National Spread Across Six Zones, Chairman Affirms
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the ruling party remains the only political platform with electoral presence across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, positioning it strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda made this known in Abuja after appearing before the APC National Convention Aspirants’ Screening Committee, where he emphasized the party’s nationwide strength.
“If you look at recent by-elections, APC has recorded wins in Kano, Zaria, Adamawa, the South-West, South-South, and South-East. No other political party has achieved this in the past year,” he said.
He maintained that the party’s spread is a reflection of its growing acceptance across the country, adding that its structure remains unmatched among political parties in Nigeria.
On the ongoing screening exercise ahead of the party’s National Convention scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, Yilwatda described the process as transparent and system-driven.
“In the APC, it has been different. Everybody is subject to the system and how it operates. The processes have become more transparent and organized, and the system now prevails over individuals,” he stated.

The APC chairman, who was screened at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, was asked to “take a bow” by the panel, a gesture typically reserved for aspirants acknowledged for their performance and leadership.
He commended the screening committee, chaired by Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for conducting what he described as a seamless and conflict-free exercise.
Yilwatda also took a swipe at opposition parties, noting that internal crises have continued to undermine their credibility.
“What we are seeing here is a peaceful and well-coordinated process, unlike the recurring issues in some other parties,” he added.
Looking ahead, he pledged to consolidate on the gains recorded under his leadership if re-elected, stressing his commitment to strengthening party unity and discipline.
“Our focus remains on building a party that rewards commitment and loyalty, not just political convenience,” Yilwatda said.
The APC National Convention is expected to attract delegates and stakeholders from across the country as the party prepares to reposition itself for future elections.
