
FCT Police Rescue Mentally Challenged Woman and Newborn in Kwali

The FCT Police Command has successfully rescued a mentally challenged woman and her newborn baby girl after she delivered along a roadside in Kwaita Village, Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on 3rd April 2026 at around 12:30 AM when officers of the Rapid Response Squad, who were on patrol in the area, reported the discovery of the unidentified woman.
“The Officer in Charge of the Gender Unit, Kwali Division, alongside her team, promptly mobilized to the scene. The mother and her newborn were safely rescued and immediately conveyed to General Hospital, Kwali, where they received medical attention and were discharged in stable condition,” the statement said.
In line with standard welfare procedures, the Officer in Charge of Welfare, Kwali Area Council, Mr. Sadiq Kwali, was contacted. The rescued mother and child were subsequently relocated to the FCT Children’s Home in Wako, Gwagwalada Area Council, to ensure proper care and support.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, praised the swift and compassionate response of the officers involved.
He specifically commended male personnel for demonstrating exceptional professionalism in assisting the mother and securing the safety of the newborn before the arrival of the Gender Unit.
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and empathetic, encouraging citizens to promptly report emergencies or individuals in distress to the nearest police station or via the FCT Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
