The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a woman, Fatima Ibrahim, over the alleged poisoning and death of her six-year-old stepson, Mubarak Ibrahim, in Kwaimawa community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

The boy reportedly began vomiting uncontrollably shortly after drinking a beverage allegedly given to him by the suspect.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this to journalists on Monday, adding that the family initially rushed the child to the Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa.

They later transferred him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, for further treatment.

Habib said medical personnel battled to save Mubarak’s life for eight days, but he died on October 24, 2026.

The police launched an investigation after the village head of Kwaimawa reported the incident. Detectives subsequently arrested Fatima over the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The spokesman said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to establish what led to the boy’s death.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described the incident as heartbreaking and inhumane. He assured the bereaved family that the command would pursue justice.
