The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified enforcement against the dangerous practice of conveying humans, animals and goods in the same vehicle, intercepting several offending trucks in Kaduna State during the ongoing Easter Special Patrol.

In a statement signed on Monday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the operation was carried out by the Kaduna State Sector Command under the leadership of Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijani Iliyasu, following directives from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed.

The FRSC said multiple articulated vehicles were apprehended along key routes for transporting over 100 passengers alongside livestock and cargo, a practice it described as highly hazardous.

The Corps Marshal warned that mixed loading poses grave risks to road users, describing it as “a ticking time bomb on Nigerian highways” and “an egregious violation that converts vehicles into rolling death traps.”

He explained that in the event of a crash, occupants face heightened danger from shifting goods or livestock, which could crush or injure them, significantly reducing chances of survival.

“Beyond the immediate threat to lives, the practice compromises vehicle stability, weakens braking control, and significantly increases the risk of fatal road traffic crashes,” he said.

The Corps reiterated that the ongoing enforcement reflects its zero-tolerance stance against traffic violations that endanger public safety, warning drivers and transport operators to desist or face arrest and prosecution.

Operators nationwide were urged to comply strictly with safety regulations, particularly during the Easter period when vehicular movement increases across the country.

The FRSC also assured the public of sustained patrols, intelligence-driven enforcement, and continuous public enlightenment campaigns aimed at reducing accidents and safeguarding lives.

“Safety on the highways is a collective responsibility that must not be compromised,” the statement added.
