Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Over Alleged Rape, Murder in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, over the alleged rape and killing of a woman identified as Olaseni Veronica in Iboropa community, Akoko area of the state.

Police spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect was apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation by operatives of the command.

According to him, detectives were able to track the victim’s missing mobile phone, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting to having carnal knowledge of the victim and thereafter strangling her to death,” Abayomi said.

He described the incident as a “heinous and inhumane act,” assuring that the command would ensure justice is served.

The police further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the state headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, noting that early reporting can aid effective investigations, especially in cases involving sudden or unnatural deaths.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, with calls for swift justice and improved security in the area.
