Police Arrest Father Over Alleged Rape, Repeated Pregnancies of Daughter

A man identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command over allegations of prolonged sexual abuse of his daughter, which reportedly led to multiple pregnancies and forced abortions.

The suspect was apprehended in the Ijebu Ode area following a complaint filed by the 21-year-old survivor, whose identity has been withheld.

According to police sources, the alleged abuse began in 2019 after the victim, who lost her mother at infancy, was taken from a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos, by her father under the pretext of providing care.

She claimed the abuse continued over several years, during which she became pregnant on five occasions.

Police said the suspect allegedly arranged illegal abortions each time.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest on Monday, noting that the case was reported at the Ifo Division.

“On March 26, 2026, a 21-year-old woman reported at Ifo Division that she had been subjected to sexual abuse by her biological father,” Babaseyi said.

“During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured abortion for each pregnancy.”

He added that the victim managed to escape from the suspect’s residence earlier in February and sought refuge in a church around the Pakoto area.

Babaseyi said operatives of the division acted on intelligence to arrest the suspect.

“Following a tip-off, officers moved swiftly and successfully arrested the suspect. He is currently in custody,” he stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations.
