Support Group Lauds Tinubu’s Salary Donation to Armed Forces

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A pro-government group, the Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), has commended President Bola Tinubu for donating his annual salaries to support members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the move as a strong demonstration of commitment to national security and the welfare of troops.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the President’s gesture underscores his concern for those serving on the frontlines and the families of fallen heroes.

According to TMV, the donation forms part of initiatives announced during the President’s 74th birthday, including the establishment of a special welfare fund dedicated to injured service personnel, widows, dependants and children of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The group noted that the President had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a dedicated account for the initiative, aimed at ensuring sustained support for military personnel affected by ongoing security operations.

“We consider this show of compassion as a clear indication that those who sacrifice for the nation will not be neglected,” the statement said.

TMV added that the decision by the President to forgo elaborate birthday celebrations in favour of supporting the military reflected what it described as a sense of responsibility and statesmanship.

It also welcomed the President’s call on the private sector, members of the National Assembly and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund, noting that such collective effort would strengthen the support system for the armed forces.

“For President Tinubu to lead by example by committing his annual salaries since 2023 is highly commendable,” the group stated, adding that the move would help boost morale among troops engaged in security operations across the country.

The group expressed optimism that the initiative would not only improve the welfare of personnel but also reinforce confidence among members of the armed forces that their sacrifices are recognised and valued.

TMV further described the gesture as a practical step towards addressing welfare concerns within the military, while urging continued support for programmes aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
