FRSC Records Zero Crashes, Restricts 858 Trucks in ‘Operation Safe Kugbo’
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles along the Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja since the launch of its enforcement drive, Operation Safe Kugbo, in March.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, who said the milestone reflects the effectiveness of the ongoing operation aimed at improving road safety in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Corps, a total of 858 articulated vehicles and trucks have so far been restricted from operating along the corridor during peak traffic hours since the exercise began on March 18, 2026.
The statement noted that the initiative is backed by existing traffic laws, particularly provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations and the FCT Traffic Regulations, and is part of broader efforts to reduce crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles.
“The zero-crash record along the corridor stands as a strong validation of the effectiveness of the initiative,” the Corps said, adding that the operation aligns with its 2026 strategic goal of drastically reducing road traffic accidents nationwide.
FRSC attributed the success to coordinated enforcement efforts and strategic leadership, with field operations led by the Unit Commander, RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, who has been overseeing compliance through targeted patrols and real-time traffic control during peak periods.
The Corps stressed that the operation remains ongoing, with plans to intensify monitoring to sustain the gains already recorded.

It also urged motorists, transport operators and truck drivers to comply fully with the restriction order, warning that enforcement would continue as part of efforts to safeguard lives and property on the roads.
FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer highways across the country, noting that regulating the movement of heavy-duty vehicles during high-traffic periods is critical to reducing accidents and improving traffic flow in busy urban corridors like Kugbo.
