2027 Presidential Race Will Be My Final Bid, Says Atiku
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the 2027 general election will mark his last attempt at the presidency.
Atiku made the disclosure during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, bringing to a close decades of repeated bids for the nation’s top office.
“The 2027 election will be my last outing,” he said.
Responding to questions about his age and multiple attempts, the former vice president argued that Nigeria’s challenges are rooted in leadership, insisting he still has the experience to offer.
According to him, the country needs a blend of experience and forward-looking ideas, adding that he represents both.
He also stressed the need to prepare younger Nigerians for leadership roles, calling for structured training to groom the next generation.

Beyond his personal ambition, Atiku indicated a willingness to support a consensus candidate if the opposition adopts that route. He said he would step aside for any candidate who emerges through a credible process, including Peter Obi.
“I will step aside for any winner,” he said, noting that leadership selection could come through consensus or democratic contest.
His remarks come amid renewed talks within opposition circles ahead of the 2027 election, with discussions around possible alliances gaining traction.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, had earlier suggested a joint ticket involving Atiku and Obi, citing their previous collaboration in the 2019 election.
Momodu said such an arrangement could help consolidate opposition support, given Obi’s performance in the last election and existing voter base.
Atiku, however, maintained that whatever path is chosen, it must be anchored on a transparent process that reflects the will of party members and the electorate.
