ICPC Dismisses N50b Bribery Claims in Viral Video as False
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has rejected claims contained in a viral video alleging a N50 billion bribery scandal, describing the content as entirely false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday by its Head of Media and Public Communications, Okor Odey, the commission said the video, which has gained traction on social media, was fabricated and bears no connection to any investigation or report by the agency.
The anti-corruption body stated that materials used in the video, including names and images, were manipulated, with some elements suspected to have been generated using artificial intelligence to lend credibility to the false narrative.
“The images, names and content in the video are fabricated and, in some instances, AI-generated, designed solely to mislead unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement said.
The ICPC categorically denied any involvement in the alleged bribery case referenced in the video, stressing that no such investigation exists within its records.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the ICPC is not investigating any individual, SAN, group of lawyers, or judicial officer in connection with the fictitious N50 billion bribe referenced in the video,” it stated.
The commission urged members of the public to disregard the claims and avoid sharing unverified content, warning that such misinformation could damage reputations and erode trust in public institutions.
It also issued a stern warning to those behind the production and circulation of the video, noting that the misuse of its name to spread falsehood would attract legal consequences.
“Those responsible for originating or amplifying this malicious content, when apprehended, will face serious legal consequences,” the agency said.
Reaffirming its mandate, the ICPC said it remains committed to conducting credible, evidence-based investigations in line with the law, and would not be distracted by attempts to undermine its work through disinformation.
The commission further advised Nigerians to rely on its official communication channels for verified updates, amid rising concerns over the growing use of digital manipulation and fake content in the information space.
