Tinubu Condemns Iran Strikes on UAE, Reaffirms Support for Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday condemned attacks on the United Arab Emirates, expressing concern over strikes targeting civilian populations and key economic infrastructure amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on his official X handle, the Nigerian leader voiced solidarity with the UAE and its President, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to global peace and stability.
“Nigeria is for global peace and stability and for its friends and partners anywhere,” Tinubu said, noting that the attacks on civilian and economic assets were troubling.
“I am particularly concerned by the attacks on UAE’s civilian and economic infrastructure. I reaffirm my support and solidarity to the President of UAE and the measures he took to safeguard civilian populations and critical infrastructure,” he added.
The remarks come against the backdrop of rising hostilities involving Iran, following a series of missile and drone strikes reportedly targeting strategic locations in the Gulf nation.
The crisis traces back to February, when the United States, in coordination with Israeli forces, launched strikes on Iran under an operation authorised by President Donald Trump, citing concerns over Tehran’s alleged nuclear ambitions.
In response, Iran is reported to have carried out retaliatory attacks across parts of the region, including strikes on the UAE, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
Reports indicate that the UAE’s air defence systems, including advanced missile interception platforms, have neutralised a significant number of incoming projectiles. However, some attacks have resulted in casualties and damage to infrastructure in major cities such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions have so far yielded limited progress, with initial talks held in Islamabad ending without a breakthrough. Further negotiations are said to be under consideration as stakeholders seek a path to stability.
Tinubu’s statement adds to growing international reactions calling for restraint and protection of civilian lives as the situation continues to evolve.
