Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Saturday arrived in Ibadan, Oyo State, for a high-level gathering of opposition figures aimed at strengthening collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso was received by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, alongside senior government officials and political stakeholders, as leaders across party lines converged for the National Summit of Opposition Political Party Leaders.
The summit, themed “That We May Work Together for a United Opposition to Sustain Our Democracy,” is widely seen as part of ongoing efforts by opposition groups to build a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in the next electoral cycle.
In a brief post on its official platform, the African Democratic Congress confirmed Kwankwaso’s arrival, noting that he was “warmly received to attend the National Summit of Opposition Political Party Leaders,” noting the growing momentum around opposition unity.
Saturday’s meeting comes amid increasing political realignments, with key figures gravitating toward the ADC as a potential platform for a broad-based coalition.
In recent weeks, prominent politicians: including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi have been linked to ongoing consultations within the party aimed at forging a unified front.
The coalition drive has also sparked discussions around possible joint tickets, with growing advocacy for strategic alliances that could merge regional strengths and voter bases.

The Ibadan summit represents a critical step in translating these discussions into a coordinated political strategy, especially as opposition leaders seek to overcome internal divisions that have historically weakened their chances at the polls.
While details of deliberations were still emerging at the time of filing this report, insiders suggest the meeting will focus on harmonising interests, resolving leadership disputes, and outlining a shared agenda capable of appealing to a broad spectrum of Nigerian voters.
The gathering also comes against the backdrop of internal challenges within the ADC, including leadership tussles and legal disputes, which party leaders say must be resolved to present a credible alternative ahead of 2027.
Despite these hurdles, the party has maintained that its expanding coalition reflects a growing desire among Nigerians for a united opposition capable of reshaping the country’s political landscape.
