A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Dr Azeez Salako Muyideen Olaniyi, has outlined security and infrastructure as the central focus of his campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
Olaniyi, who spoke with journalists in Abuja after obtaining his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, said safeguarding lives and property remains critical to unlocking economic growth and attracting investment into the state.
He expressed confidence in the internal processes of the APC, dismissing concerns about transparency within the party, and noting that he trusts the current leadership to deliver a credible primary process.
Speaking on his vision for the state, the aspirant said Kwara faces unique challenges that require urgent attention, particularly in security, infrastructure, education and healthcare.
“We have our peculiarities. Presently, we are having challenges in security, and infrastructure is not adequate. We also have problems in the health sector and education. These will be my priorities,” he said.
Olaniyi argued that insecurity has continued to discourage investors, stressing that economic progress cannot be achieved without a stable environment.
“Investors do not want to come where there is no security. We must first secure our territory before we can talk about development,” he added.
The aspirant also raised concerns over the spillover of insecurity from other regions, warning that Kwara’s strategic location makes it vulnerable if proactive steps are not taken.
To address this, he proposed the creation of a local security outfit to complement the efforts of federal agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force.
“We rely on the federal security and the police. They are trying their best, but it is not enough. We must have our own local security office that will now secure our territory,” he said.
Olaniyi maintained that strengthening security architecture at the state level would not only protect residents but also position Kwara as a hub for investment and development.
He further stressed that stabilising the North Central region is vital to preventing the spread of insecurity to other parts of the country, noting that Kwara’s role in that effort cannot be overlooked.
