A leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Solomon Olamikan Adeola, on Thursday formally submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms, pledging to sustain and expand the developmental strides of the current administration if elected.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, arrived at the party secretariat to complete the process amid growing backing from party stakeholders, following his emergence as a consensus candidate in the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after submitting his forms, the senator attributed his emergence to divine grace and the collective support of party leaders across Ogun State.
“I want to thank God Almighty for a day like this. I am the first aspirant that will be submitting his nomination form,” he said, acknowledging the role of key figures in his political journey.
He specifically expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and party chieftain Olusegun Osoba for their support, noting that his candidacy reflects a broad-based consensus within the party.
“I’m standing here today not by myself but by the grace of God and the entire leadership of our great party in Ogun State,” he said, adding that his acceptance was not based on personal achievement alone but on goodwill from party stakeholders.
On what informed his selection as a consensus candidate, Adeola downplayed any special formula, instead pointing to consistency and commitment.
“There is no secret. It is just about being focused, dedicated and committed to what you are doing. At the right time, decisions like this can come,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the lawmaker said his ambition is anchored on continuity and progress, particularly in the areas of economic growth and infrastructure development.
“Our state is already on the trajectory of upward movement. What I will do is to consolidate on the gains of this current administration and build on it, especially in economic development and infrastructure,” he said.
Adeola also promised to work closely with party leaders and stakeholders across different blocs to advance the state’s development agenda.
“Ogun State is destined for the next level, and together with all leaders of our party, we will take it there,” he added.
His formal entry into the race comes days after Governor Abiodun publicly endorsed him as the APC’s consensus candidate, a move seen by observers as a major boost to his chances ahead of the party’s primaries.
