JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A member of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Dr Jophia Nanker Gupar, has declared her ambition to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Pankshin, Kanke, Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency, pledging inclusive leadership and a people-focused development agenda.

Speaking with journalists after submitting her nomination form, Dr Gupar said her decision to enter the race is driven by a commitment to reshape the political narrative and encourage more Nigerian women to take up leadership roles.

She noted that fear and societal barriers have long limited women’s participation in politics, stressing that her candidacy is meant to inspire change. “We are here to change the narrative. We are not in competition with men, nor are we here to condemn them; we are here to add value,” she said.

The aspirant, who described herself as a grassroots “developer,” outlined key priorities including healthcare improvement, agricultural support, youth engagement, and community service.

She also placed strong emphasis on housing and education, promising policies that will ensure access to shelter and learning opportunities for all.

“Every child in my constituency must have access to education, and no family should go to bed hungry,” she added, noting that empowerment programmes would be central to her legislative agenda.

Dr Gupar expressed confidence in her chances at the party primaries, citing her longstanding relationship with constituents across the PKK federal constituency.

According to her, years of engagement at the grassroots have earned her the trust and support needed to secure victory. “I am very confident. I have been with my people, and I understand their needs,” she stated.

Reaffirming her belief in democratic principles, she called for a transparent and fair primary process, urging party stakeholders to provide a level playing field for all aspirants
