The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed Monday, October 26, for its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where it will unveil its National Campaign Council and present its candidates with Certificates of Return.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10am at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the meeting would also feature the presentation of the party’s statement of account by its National Treasurer.
He said the move was part of the NDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of its finances.
The party challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to adopt similar measures in disclosing their financial records.
“For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual,” the statement said.
Director attributed the party’s limited financial resources partly to the economic hardship in the country, claiming that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms.
He said the party had to issue the forms to the affected candidates free of charge, contrary to what he described as public speculation about its finances.
The NDC also said its National Campaign Council would cover candidates contesting presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
The party said the unveiling would provide an opportunity to formally present its candidates with Certificates of Return for their respective offices.
It expressed readiness to participate in the political process, declaring that it was prepared to offer Nigerians what it described as altruistic leadership.
“A New Nigeria is Possible. We can do it!” the party added.
