Oyo School Abduction: Gbajabiamila, Ribadu, IGP, CDS Lead Tinubu Delegation to Ogbomoso

A high-level presidential delegation has arrived in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

The delegation, dispatched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and includes the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe; and Special Adviser on Public Communications, Sunday Dare.

The team is expected to proceed to the affected communities where armed men reportedly stormed the Baptist Nursery and Primary School and surrounding locations, abducting about 46 pupils and teachers in a coordinated raid that has triggered nationwide concern.

The visit is part of a coordinated federal response aimed at assessing the situation on ground and reinforcing ongoing rescue operations for the victims still in captivity.

Sunday Dare, who confirmed the development in a post on his verified X handle, said President Tinubu had activated security agencies immediately after reports of the attack emerged.

“A powerful Presidential Delegation just arrived Ogbomoso en route to the villages of Esiele and Yawota where armed men simultaneously raided Baptist Nursery and Primary schools seizing about 46 pupils and teachers,” Dare wrote.

He added that the President had directed security and intelligence agencies to intensify efforts toward the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, as well as ensure the perpetrators are tracked and brought to justice.

The deployment of top security and government officials underscores the seriousness of the incident, which has heightened anxiety among families and residents in the affected communities.

Relatives of the victims have continued to call for urgent action, urging both federal and state authorities to expedite efforts to secure the release of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers.

Security agencies have yet to release an official update on the whereabouts of the victims, though sources say coordinated search-and-rescue operations are ongoing in the area.

The incident adds to growing concerns over school security in parts of the country, as authorities grapple with renewed threats of mass abductions targeting vulnerable rural communities.
