The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the deployment of additional security assets to Plateau State and dispatched the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, to conduct an operational assessment of communities affected by recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The move comes as the Nigeria Police Force intensifies efforts to restore peace and prevent further violence in the troubled area following a series of attacks that claimed lives and displaced residents.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, the AIG visited Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos LGA, on Tuesday as part of a fact-finding and confidence-building mission ordered by the Inspector-General.

During the visit, Morris met with community leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to assess the security situation on the ground and evaluate ongoing measures aimed at stabilising affected communities.

The police chief used the opportunity to convey the condolences of the Inspector-General and the Force Management Team to families who lost loved ones in the attacks.

He assured residents that the police remained committed to ensuring that those responsible for the violence are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

“All lawful measures are being deployed to apprehend those responsible and prevent further acts of violence,” Morris said while addressing members of the community.

The AIG also disclosed that the Inspector-General had approved the deployment of additional security assets to Plateau State, particularly to communities affected by the attacks in Bokkos, to strengthen ongoing operations and improve security presence.

He said the reinforcement was designed to support efforts to restore normalcy and boost public confidence in the ability of security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

Morris urged residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security operatives, warning against reprisals that could worsen the security situation and undermine ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace.

As part of the visit, the AIG paid courtesy calls on Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, where he conveyed the sympathies of the police leadership and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to working closely with the state government and traditional institutions to address security challenges.

The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to collaborate with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to protect lives and property, maintain public safety and support sustainable peace in Plateau State and across the country.
