TMSG Challenges Atiku to Name Major Projects from Obasanjo Era

The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to identify major infrastructure projects initiated and completed during the eight years of the Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

The group made the call in response to Atiku’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s policies and infrastructure projects ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, TMSG questioned Atiku’s record as vice president between 1999 and 2007.

The group said Atiku and his supporters often portray him as a major force behind the Obasanjo administration and its economic policies.

It therefore challenged the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present projects from that period that Nigerians can directly associate with the administration.

“We urge the ADC presidential candidate to outline for Nigerians the legacy infrastructural projects initiated and completed by that administration in eight years that have stood the test of time,” the group said.

TMSG also asked Atiku to identify policies he initiated during his tenure that have produced lasting benefits for the country.

The group said the question became necessary because Atiku had repeatedly criticised the administrations of Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari while presenting himself as a better alternative.

It also disputed claims by Atiku’s media supporters that he played a central role in coordinating the Obasanjo administration’s economic team.

According to the group, former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, had previously rejected such claims and accused Atiku’s supporters of revisionism.

TMSG further linked Atiku to the administration’s privatisation programme and challenged him to identify projects that transformed the lives of Nigerians during the period.

The group also raised concerns about the infrastructure situation after Nigeria secured $12.4 billion in debt relief from the Paris Club.

It argued that Nigerians had questioned the level of investment in critical infrastructure during the period, particularly in the power and rail sectors.

“Where are the legacy infrastructural projects initiated and completed by the then government?” the group asked.

TMSG said rail development only recorded renewed activity during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, which later provided a foundation for projects pursued under Buhari.

The group added that the Tinubu administration had continued to develop road and rail infrastructure through projects it described as more integrated.

TMSG urged voters to scrutinise Atiku’s record at the federal level as the 2027 elections approach.

The group said his experience as a former vice president should not, on its own, determine how Nigerians assess his political claims or proposals.
