White House Launches ‘Trump TV’ After Media Ban

The White House has launched a 24-hour online channel known as “Trump TV” following its decision to bar CNN, MS NOW and Politico from its premises.

The channel, streamed through YouTube, features President Donald Trump’s speeches, administration announcements, past appearances and other official material.

The White House described the platform as a round-the-clock stream designed to provide viewers with direct access to the administration’s activities.

It said the service would combine real-time updates with highlights from Trump’s previous years in office and official announcements.

The launch came days after Trump announced a ban on the three news organisations, accusing them of publishing what he described as false and unfavourable reports.

The affected organisations have rejected the action and filed a lawsuit challenging the White House decision.

CNN, MS NOW and Politico are seeking court intervention to restore their access to the White House. A federal court hearing on their request for temporary relief is scheduled for Wednesday.

The dispute has also disrupted the traditional television press pool that covers the president.

ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News and CNN have traditionally rotated responsibility for recording presidential events and distributing the video feed to other news organisations.

The major networks suspended the arrangement after CNN was removed from its scheduled role following the ban.

The effect was seen during a White House event on Monday, when Trump spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new helipad. The White House livestream carried the event, but the president’s remarks could not be heard because the usual television pool equipment was absent.

The networks also did not send television crews with Trump to New York for his United Nations General Assembly engagements on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the three banned organisations continued to cover Trump outside the White House.

CNN, MS NOW and Politico also retained access to the United Nations through media credentials issued by the world body, allowing their journalists to report on Trump’s activities at the General Assembly.

The White House media ban has triggered a broader legal dispute over press access and the First Amendment.

The administration has defended its decision, while the affected news organisations argue that the restrictions violate constitutional protections for the press.

Legal experts cited by Reuters have also questioned whether the administration can lawfully restrict access based on disagreements with the outlets’ coverage.

The launch of Trump TV therefore places the White House’s own streaming platform at the centre of an increasingly contentious dispute over how the president and his administration are covered by the media.
