Fury-Joshua Showdown Set for Principality Stadium December 11

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally meet in the ring when their long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown takes place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.

The confirmation ends years of uncertainty surrounding one of the most anticipated fights in British boxing. Negotiations had repeatedly stalled, with the venue emerging as one of the major issues delaying the contest.

Turki Alalshikh, who has played a central role in putting the fight together, announced the date and location on Thursday. He said the bout would take place in the United Kingdom, fulfilling a promise he made to British boxing fans.

“For 15 years no one has been able to make this fight,” Alalshikh wrote on X. “I can now confirm that Fury vs Joshua will be coming to the UK, as I promised British boxing fans.”

The fight is expected to be contested for the WBA ‘super’ heavyweight title, according to The Ring. The championship became vacant after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the position.

Fury and Joshua will also appear together at a press conference in London on September 30 as the build-up to the December encounter begins.

The exact start time has yet to be announced. However, Cardiff Council said the main event would take place in the early hours of Saturday morning to accommodate television audiences in the United States.

The contest will be broadcast globally on Netflix, while organisers have promised a star-studded undercard. Details of the supporting bouts are expected to be announced later.

The Principality Stadium is already familiar territory for Joshua. The former two-time unified heavyweight champion has fought there twice, beating Carlos Takam before defeating Joseph Parker in a heavyweight unification bout.

The Cardiff venue also has a notable place in British boxing history. Its predecessor, the National Stadium, hosted the famous all-British heavyweight encounter between Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno.

Fury and Joshua have spent several years calling each other out, but efforts to make the fight repeatedly ran into difficulties. Both sides had agreed to face each other earlier this year, yet months passed without a confirmed date or venue.

The negotiations became more complicated when New York’s Madison Square Garden emerged as a possible destination. Joshua’s camp had maintained that the fight should take place in Britain, while Fury repeatedly expressed frustration over the delay.

That uncertainty has now been resolved, with Cardiff selected as the venue for the long-awaited encounter.

Both fighters also entered the final stage of their respective careers through tune-up bouts. Joshua faced Kristian Prenga in July and survived two knockdowns before stopping his opponent in the second round.

Fury, meanwhile, returned from a lengthy absence with a points victory over Aslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April. He later faced veteran Mariusz Wach in a non-televised bout in Thailand.

The two former heavyweight champions will now turn their attention to each other after years of rivalry, negotiations and missed opportunities.

Alalshikh described the contest as a meeting between two of the leading heavyweights of their generation and said he was pleased to finally make the fight happen.

Dana White, another figure involved in the event, noted that Fury and Joshua would bring a combined 66 victories and 52 knockouts into the ring, along with multiple heavyweight world titles.

The announcement has therefore moved the long-discussed rivalry from speculation to a confirmed date and venue. Fury and Joshua will now meet at the Principality Stadium on December 11 in a fight that has been years in the making.
