The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has partnered with TomorrowNow to improve access to timely and reliable weather and climate information for farmers across Nigeria.
The collaboration seeks to help farmers make better decisions on planting, livestock management and other agricultural activities amid changing weather conditions. The two organisations highlighted the initiative during a sideline event on the third day of the Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos.
NiMet’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, stressed the need for a standard approach to climate information across the agricultural value chain.
He said the partnership must deliver measurable results and provide practical benefits to farmers rather than focus solely on the production of climate data.
Anosike emphasised the importance of ensuring that stakeholders receive consistent and useful information to guide their decisions.
Similarly, TomorrowNow Chief Executive Officer, Brian Miranda, assured NiMet’s leadership of his organisation’s commitment to expanding climate advisory services across Nigeria’s agriculture and livestock sectors.
Miranda said the partnership would support efforts to make climate information more accessible and useful to producers who depend on weather conditions for their livelihoods.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen the delivery of actionable weather forecasts and climate guidance to farmers and livestock operators.
With better access to such information, agricultural producers can plan their activities more effectively, manage weather-related risks and respond to changing climatic conditions.
The initiative also seeks to improve resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain by helping farmers incorporate climate information into everyday production decisions.
Its impact will depend on how effectively the partners translate forecasts and climate data into practical advice that reaches farmers in time to act on it.
