Edo 2024: Intervene now in Obaseki / Shaibu rift before It degenerates VAN tells PDP leadership
Joel Oladele, Abuja
The Edo state coordinator of Victory Advocates of Nigeria(VAN), Friday Ogieisoba has called on the national executive of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and other stakeholders to as a matter of urgency intervene in the ongoing rift between the Governor of Edo state Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu.
He made this clarion call today noting that if the misunderstanding is not nipped in the bud, it may turn out to be another battle that could lead to the opposition party taking the state from PDP in the forthcoming gubernatorial election slated for next year.
“Losing Edo state to the opposition party come next year election will bring a lot of set back to the ongoing development and growth in the state.
“We all lose together when bullying and personal attacks become a substitute for genuine conversation and principled disagreement.” Ogieisoba said
In a related development, the national President of the group, Prince Seyi Ajibola in a press statement he personally signed today also urged the national working committee of the PDP, the presidential candidate of the party in the last general elections, Alh. Atiku Abubaka and other stakeholders to use the dispute management committee of the party to resolve the differences between the two party leaders in Edo state.
He added that the best way to manage the disagreement is to make sure all the critical stakeholders are involved to settle it amicably in the best interest of the party.
“I urge all the two parties in the ongoing rift in Edo PDP to refrain from further attacks on each other and give our party leaders an ample opportunity to settle this rift in the best interest of the party because we can’t afford to lose Edo state to the opposition.” Ajibola appealed.
It will be recalled that the Governor of Edo state, H. E Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy H. E. Philip Shaibu have in recent time been at loggerheads over the succession interest and other issues.
“Negotiation and discussion are the greatest weapons we have for promoting peace and development in our society.” Ajibola said.
