Bandits raid mosques, fatally target worshipers in Kaduna.

At least seven individuals were killed when bandits launched an attack on worshippers at a Mosque in Saya-Saya village, located in the Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday.

Report has it that, five of the victims were shot inside the mosque, while the other two were killed in separate locations nearby.

The incident occurred at about 8pm while the villagers were engaged in Isha’i (Sunset) prayers at a nearby mosque, as reported.

During the prayers, a group of hoodlums opened fire, tragically killing five individuals who are yet to be identified. Among the victims was a prominent vigilante leader, who was targeted by the assailants.

“Two other victims were killed by the bandits in other parts of the village,” said a source on the telephone.

The village head of the community, Abdulrahman Yusuf, has confirmed the incident. He stated that the head of the vigilantes in the village was among the victims who were killed inside the mosque.

Yusuf claimed that the vigilante leader was followed to the mosque, where he and the other victims were tragically shot and killed.

“We suspected they traced the vigilante leader to the mosque to attack him. We were inside the mosque praying when they arrived and started shooting. Five persons were killed in the mosque, while a driver who brought food items to the village was also killed. The other person was killed at a nearby village,” he stated.

Yusuf also mentioned that security measures had been strengthened in Ikara after the incident.

Mansir Alhassan, the acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed this during a phone conversation on Saturday.

He stated that the police had deployed officers to search the nearby bushes in order to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.
