Taraba: Policeman, three bandits killed during anti-kidnap operation

Operatives of the Taraba State Police Command and some bandits have exchanged fierce gunfire at the hills of Yorro and Mararaba Kunini in Taraba State. The battle led to the death of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aminu Nuhu, and three bandits.

The confrontation happened during an anti-kidnap operation organised by the police, aimed at rescuing 23 persons abducted earlier in the day.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Usman Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, saying the operation targeted a kidnappers’ den at Pupule community, where a monarch, two police officers, and 20 others had been held.

Abdullahi said: “During the encounter, we lost one of our officers, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and three bandits were killed. Four other suspects were apprehended, while some managed to evade capture.

An unnamed officer who was involved in the operation said: “On sighting the policemen, the bandits opened fire, and the policemen replied ‘fire-for-fire. After a 30-minute clash, three bandits were fatally shot, while others fled with gunshot injuries.”
