Bye-elections: APC releases timetable for activities, primary to hold Jan. 6

Following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct re-run and by-elections on the 3rd of February 2024, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the timetable of activities leading to the polls.
The timetable as signed by the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Sulaiman Argungu, was made available on its official X handle on Monday.
NATIONAL PERISCOPE recalls that INEC has said the elections cover aspirants contesting for Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly across the nation in obedience to Court orders and fulfillment of other Electoral Laws.
According to the timetable, the sales of nominations and expression of interest forms will start on Wednesdays December 27, 2023 till January 2, 2024.
The prices for expression of interest and nomination forms for senatorial aspirants are N3 million and N17 million respectively.
For House of Representatives aspirants, they are to pay N1 million naira for expression of interest form and N9 million for nomination form each.
While State House of Assembly aspirants will pay N500,000 for the expression of interest and N1.5 million for nomination forms each.
The released notice also revealed that female aspirants and People With Disabilities (PWDs) are only required to pay for the expression of interest as they are to get the nomination form for free.
Also, youth between ages 25 and 40 are to purchase the expression of interest and get the nomination forms at 50% discount for each position.
“The expression of interest and nomination forms will be available for purchase at the Directorate of Organization, 2nd floor, APC National Headquarters, Wuse II, Abuja” Argungun noted.
Delegates who are to elect the candidates in the primary elections are not left out as they are required to get delegate form for N5,000 among other requirements.
“Members to elect candidates will be financial members of the party for not less than 3 months to the date of Delegate Congress with evidence of payment of membership dues at the rate of N200 only per month,” he said.
The sales of forms is expected to start on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 while submission closes by January 3, 2024.
The primary is fixed for January 6, 2024 and the primary appeal committee is to sit on January 7 while the list of candidates would be sent to INEC on January 9, 2024, according to the notice.
