Ondo 2024: Group sues for good governance
A socio-political group, G-18, has vowed to chart a way for good governance in Ondo State ahead of the 2024 governorship election in the state.
The State Coordinator of the group, Mr. Akin Akinbobola made the vow today during the inauguration of the group in Akure, Ondo State capital.
He disclosed that the group was purposely formed to bring to a stop the chances of people, who do not have any laudable programme in mind for the people, from getting into power in the state.
Akinbobola declared that G-18 is not affiliated to any political party and would not relent in its efforts to check the antics of politicians who hoodwink the people to get into power.
According to him, G-18 is representing all the 18 local government areas of state and would put all necessary machinery in place to enlighten the people on who to choose and vote for as the governor during the election.
Akinbobola said: “G-18 which is essentially giving birth to wake all right thinking stakeholders to the need to move the Sunshine State in the path of good governance.
“Ondo State has always been at the fore-front of development in our dear country, Nigeria, hence cannot just be allowed to suddenly nose dive into the murky mud of political jobbers and opportunist set of individuals or group.
“G-18 is neither a political party affiliate, rather a people-oriented group with various interests that believe in good governance, right leadership that can deliver the best for all, with membership cutting across the eighteen local government areas of the state.t
“It should also be noted that the group stands for excellence in governance, irrespective of political leaning and with main focus of making welfare of the people priority and development of the land as a key factor while leadership of impeccable characters and status are main ingredient for sustainability of any policies of government.
“Over the decades, there has been a recurrent and sustained argument that the Nigerian state, like its counterparts in Africa and other countries of the developing world, underperforms due to lack of state capacity to deal with the contemporary complexities of governance.”
