Edo 2024: I will resist Obaseki’s plans to bring an “outsider”

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of betrayal and plotting to install an “outsider” as his successor.
Shaibu, speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, declared his intention to resist Obaseki’s alleged plans, stating, “The governorship of Edo State will not want an outsider, and the governor is trying to bring an outsider, we will resist it.”
He added: “The governorship of Edo State will not want an outsider, and the governor is trying to bring an outsider, we will resist it. I’m contesting this election not for the fluke but my people are interested in it.
“Anywhere I go, you can see the organic support; my support is not procedure like the governor is using taxpayers’ money to procure support for his candidate.
“I feel very betrayed by the governor. When we go to church some biblical verses are beginning to make meaning to me since this incident started. The heart of man is desperately wicked. I added value in terms of political value, finances, and political structure for Obaseki’s second term.”
This clash between the two political figures is not a recent development. Cracks in their relationship began early in Obaseki’s second term, eventually culminating in Shaibu’s declaration to run for Governor himself. He vowed to defeat Obaseki’s chosen candidate, declaring with defiance, “No human being can stop me.”
In response, Obaseki has said he has no problem with Shaibu’s declaration, adding that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will decide Shaibu’s fate.
