Ondo 2024: APC fixes Friday for aspirants’ screening
Joel Oladele, Abuja
Following the extension of public holidays by the Federal Government, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has fixed Friday April 12th, 2024, as a new date for the screening of 16 aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket ahead of the April 20 Ondo State governorship primary election.
National Periscope recalls that the two-day exercise was earlier scheduled to commence on Thursday.
However, in a message on its official X page, @OfficialAPCNg, the party announced the new date and urged aspirants to attend the screening taking place at the party’s National Secretariat.
“Due to the inclusion of Thursday, April 11th, 2024, as a public holiday by the Federal Government, all aspirants are requested to attend the screening on Friday, April 12, 2024. Venue: APC National Secretariat,” the message read.
National Periscope gathered that the exercise will come up shortly after the inauguration of a seven-member of Ondo Governorship Screening Committee and another five-man Screening Appeal Committee by the National Working Committee of the party, which comes up by 9.00am at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on the same day.
The Governorship Screening Committee will be chaired by former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Senator Joshua Lidani while a former member of the House of Representatives, Bimbo Daramola has been selected as his Secretary.
Other members of the screening committee include Pastor Jones Erue, High Chief Second Bakor, Magaret Duru, Prof. Chukwudi Ledirick and Hon. Abdul Rahim Balogun.
The five-man Screening Appeal Committee, however, is to be chaired by the senator representing Kogi Central District, Oseni Yakubu and a former Member of the House of Representatives, who has been appointed as Secretary.
The off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State will be held on November 16, 2024, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
