APC hits back at Lukman over call for opposition to unite against it in 2027

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at its former National Vice Chairman, Salihu Lukman, for calling on opposition parties and Nigerians to unite against the party in the 2027 elections.

Lukman, who has been accused of seeking political relevance, made the call in a recent statement, alleging that the APC had “ruined the country in economic policies and corruption.”

However, the APC has dismissed Lukman’s allegations as “empty and outlandish” and a “calculated move to cobble political relevance.”

In a statement signed by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of APC on Tuesday, the party described Lukman as a “cantankerous political rodomont” who is always seeking attention and prioritizing his personal ego and interests over the national interest.

According to Morka: “Lukman’s history is one of opportunistic politicking, consistently prioritizing his personal ego and interests over the interest of any and all institutions he has ever served. His latest call for opposition leaders to unite against the APC is a calculated move to divert attention from the administration’s substantial progress and further his own selfish agenda.”

The APC also accused Lukman of lacking conviction and staying power to justify any cause, and urged Nigerians not to be distracted by his “pettiness and disinformation.”

The party reiterated its commitment to building a greater future for Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, who has taken bold measures to reset the country’s economy, improve national security, and restore sustainable development.

“We urge Nigerians to remain focused and undistracted by the opposition’s pettiness and disinformation, and to continue to support President Tinubu in his commitment to building greater progress and a more vibrant future for our country,” Morka said.
