Over 2 million voters to participate in Edo election Saturday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is gearing up for the Edo State Governorship election scheduled to hold this Saturday, with over 2 million voters expected to participate in the poll.

According to INEC National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission has announced that a total of 2,629,025 voters are registered to vote in the election.

He noted that “Out of this figure, 2,249,780 (85.57%) have collected their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) while 379,245 (14.43%) of the PVCs are uncollected as at the end of the extended period for PVC collection on Sunday, 16th September 2024.”

Olumekun stated further that the Commission has also made available data on PVC collection on Polling Unit basis in Edo State, adding that the detailed breakdown of the number of PVCs collected and uncollected in each unit has been uploaded to the INEC website for the guidance of political parties, candidates, and the public.

The data shows that there are 4,519 Polling Units in the state, and voting will take place in each unit. The breakdown by gender, age, occupation, and disability has also been made available.
