Nigeria congratulates Trump on election victory
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Federal Republic of Nigeria extended heartfelt congratulations to Donald Trump on his election victory, marking a significant moment in the political landscape of the United States of America.
The statement, signed by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations with the United States under Trump’s administration.
“Nigeria wishes the 47th President of the United States of America great success in steering the affairs of the country..We assure him of our continued support and cooperation in matters of international peace and security,” said Abu-Obe.
The Nigerian government also took time to acknowledge the contributions of the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, during her time as Vice President. “We applaud Kamala Harris for her tireless efforts and dedication to public service during her tenure,” the statement reads.
In a gesture of gratitude, the statement also recognized outgoing President Joe Biden for his leadership and service.
“We extend our appreciation to President Biden for his contributions to both the United States and the international community,” Ambassador Abu-Obe noted.
As at the time of this report, Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, is projected to have secured at least the 270 Electoral College votes he needs to return to the White House for a second time after his 2017-2021 term, The Associated Press says.
Trump, 78, has defeated his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, 60, after a hard-fought campaign, according to the projection.
Trump earlier declared victory over Harris after being projected to win the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia. AP later called Wisconsin for Trump.
The Republican Party is also projected by AP to win back control of the Senate.
