Nigeria Celebrates Historic Election of Namibian First Female President

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who has made history by being elected as the first female President of Namibia.

The announcement was confirmed by the Electoral Commission of Namibia, highlighting Nandi-Ndaitwah’s victory as the current Vice President and member of the ruling SWAPO party.

The Nigerian government lauded the decision of the Namibian electorate, emphasizing that it reflects a desire for stability in a nation that has been under SWAPO’s governance since its independence.

In a statement released from Abuja on Wednesday, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed optimism about the future relationship between Nigeria and Namibia under Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership.

The statement reads:

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria congratulates Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on her historic election as the first female President of the Republic of Namibia. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is the current Vice President, and her electoral victory as confirmed by the Electoral Commission of Namibia, will extend the ruling SWAPO’s reign in power since independence.

“The people of Namibia have indeed voted for stability. Therefore, the Government of Nigeria looks forward to further strengthening our historic, strong, and vibrant relationship during her tenure in office for the benefit of our people.”
