Kogi State’s First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo.

Kogi State’s First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has issued a clarion call to the youth to navigate the treacherous waters of social media with caution, emphasizing the importance of making positive choices for a brighter future.

Speaking at the Palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Okene on Monday, during the ongoing 16 Days of Activism and Awareness Campaign on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, Mrs. Ododo voiced her deep concern over the detrimental effects of social media on young people, especially women.

In her speech, the First Lady urged young women to reject behaviors that dishonor womanhood and to commit to positive life choices.

“It is imperative to rise above the noise and distractions that social media can create,” she stated, highlighting the pressing need for the youth to turn to self-improvement and empowerment.

Mrs Ododo further decried the involvement of the younger generation in social vices such as internet fraud noting that it was imperative for the youth to acquire entrepreneurial skills in relevant vocations including Information and Communication Technology to become self reliant and build a sustainable future.

Hajia Sefinat appealed to parents to go the extra mile in molding their children to become responsible adults, charging them to take advantage of the free education of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to enroll their wards in schools.

Speaking at the occasion, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammed Tijani Anaje emphasized the importance of peace, love, respect and discipline in the family as he implored parents particularly fathers not to abandon their duties as head of the family.

The Ohinoyi further cautioned traditional rulers in Ebiraland not to condone sharp practices within their domains by rewarding good examples and reprimanding those engaged in negative practices.

Director General, Kogi State Pension Commission, Maryam Abedo in her goodwill message, advised women to discourage any form of molestation before and after marriage and always speak out and report such cases  to the appropriate authority.

She called on parents to pay attention to their children, get close to them so that they can always confide in them when there are issues.

While urging parents to instill in their sons proper ways of treating their spouses, Mrs Abedo admonished spouses to have mutual respect to build a healthy society that would breed godly children.
