Police Probe Alleged Assault of SUG President over N500 “Settlement”

The Delta State Police Command has initiated a probe into an incident involving the alleged assault and shooting of Eruru Christian, the President of the Student Union Government at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku.
The incident reportedly occurred after Christian was confronted by police officers over a N500 “settlement.”
In a video shared on X by one #ChuksEricE, the Students leader is seen allegedly approached by police officers who demanded a N500 bribe for “settlement.”
In one of the videos, the SUG president was heard saying, “You slapped me because I refused to settle you. You will see what you have never seen in your life before. Ogwashi-Uku divisional police slapped me, SUG president, because I refused to settle them in my vehicle… because I refused to give him N500.”
In another video, he said: “They are running inside the bush, look at them, criminals. They are threatening to shoot me, SUG president. Look at you, criminals. The whole world is going to see you.”
However, while reacting to these allegations, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the incident. He added that the accused officer had also been detained.
He however, condemned the conduct of the SUG president in calling the police “criminals” and “thieves”.
Edafe wrote: “While we are looking into this incident, his claim of them asking for #500 remains an allegation and we are looking into it, he said they hit him, that’s also wrong and the officer is presently detained. However we should not encourage the behavior of the SUG president being so hostile at Policemen deployed because of the kidnapping complaints in that area. He called the police criminals and thieves even after they had left him. This too should be discouraged.”
