Gateway Games: Tolu Bankole Lauds Gov Abiodun’s Commitment to Sports Development

As the Gateway Games 2024 prepares to kick off in few hours, at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, a member of the Ogun State 6th House of Assembly and current member of the APC National Working Committee, Aare Hon. Tolu Bankole, has expressed his enthusiasm for the event while commending Governor Dapo Abiodun for his dedication to sports revitalization and youth development in the state.

Bankole’s remarks come as athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond gather for the sporting event.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bankole emphasized that the Gateway Games 2024 transcends mere competition; it represents a national celebration of unity, youth potential, and sporting excellence.

“From May 16 to 30, 2025, Abeokuta and other select venues will host what promises to be a defining moment in Nigeria’s sports development. These Games are set to birth future stars, elevate our sporting profile, and ignite a sense of national pride,” he remarked.

Bankole therefore took the opportunity to commend Ogun State’s Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering commitment to youth development and sports revitalization.

“I want to sincerely commend our forward-thinking and result-oriented Governor for his unwavering commitment to youth development, sports revitalization, and infrastructural transformation across Ogun State,” he stated.

He noted that under Abiodun’s administration, the state has made significant strides in enhancing sports facilities, road networks, and safety mechanisms, thereby laying a strong foundation for an event of this magnitude.

Highlighting the welcoming nature of Ogun State, Bankole described it as a haven of peace and hospitality.

“The people—whether Egba, Remo, Yewa, or Ijebu—live together in harmony, embracing all who come here regardless of tribe, tongue, or faith,” he noted.

Bankole further emphasized the state’s model of peaceful coexistence and the cordial relationships among adherents of different religions, assuring visitors of their safety and security.

He  also invited attendees to experience the rich culture and cuisine of Ogun State, mentioning signature dishes such as Lafun, iyan, ikokore, and ofada rice.

“Ogun State is home to enterprising citizens who have contributed immensely to commerce, education, and national development,” he added.

While expressing gratitude to the organizers, sponsors, and spectators for their support, Bankole urged the athletes to compete with integrity, courage, and the spirit of excellence.

“Ogun State welcomes you with open arms. Let us together write history as we host a Games that will be remembered for generations to come,” he stated.
