An aspirant for the chairmanship position of Bwari Area Council, Hon. Audi Haruna Shekwolo, has promised to address rising insecurity in the area if elected.

Shekwolo noted this while speaking with newsmen after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat on Wednesday.

He emphasized the critical importance of security and stated his determination to enhance it through collaboration with local security agencies and community engagement.

The aspirant also vowed  to bring about total transformation in the community.

“Security is one thing that is paramount to every citizen of this country. I am the custodian of peace in my community and I want you to have this belief that if I am the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, there will be a dramatic change in terms of security. “You can confirm that from our security chiefs that are there, Bwari, Ushafa, Mpape  Kubwa, all of them. They know the impact I have been playing but it is not something that one has to be saying outside. Security Agencies are our friends and we will collaborate with them to make sure that we combat the criminal activities in the area,” Shekwolo vowed.

He noted that his candidacy is driven by a desire to impact the lives of the people in Bwari and not for selfish interest.

“I’m into this contest not just because I want to be part of the game. I’m into this contest because I want to impact the lives of our people. If it pleases God to make me the Chairman of Bwari Council, Bwari will see a dramatic transformation,” he remarked.

Shekwolo outlined his priorities, which include quality education, access to potable water, and the provision of essential social amenities such as roads and electricity.

“These are our priorities, and we desire and hope that God will give us the ability to bring this closer to our people,” he said.

Speaking on mining, which is one of the things Bwari is known for, Shekwolo shared his experiences in his community, where he has facilitated social cooperation with local quarry companies.

“I am one of the persons that opened the eyes of our people to know what social cooperation is all about. In my community, I have a road that was done by a Chinese company that is crushing quarries in our places.

“In my community, there are many boreholes that have been drilled by these Chinese people that are mining quarries.   “We have a four-bedroom duplex that has been built, supervised by me. We have a palace, a standard palace that meets up with the standard of the FCT palace that we are building in our community. All are social cooperation possibilities from the quarries,” he said.

Addressing the pressing issue of unemployment, Shekwolo stressed the need for skill acquisition programs that lead to empowerment.

“One thing I have to tell people is it’s not all about training but when you train, be ready to empower them so that they’ll be able to take off. You should give them what they’ll be able to get a job with. The equipment they will use in order for them to put into practice what they have learned.

“I’m a product of skilled acquisition and people around us know what we have been doing even when we are not in government. And I don’t see the reason why if tomorrow I’m the head of the affairs that I will not put my interest in this aspect,” he noted

He therefore expressed his faith in a successful campaign, saying, “I’m one man that believes and has faith that God will make it for me. And God willing, in this election, I’m going to be the candidate of the party.”

The election into the Six Area Councils of the FCT has been fixed for Saturday 21 February 2026 as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
