In a display of determination and solidarity, two young Nigerians, Aliyu Mubi and Rabiu Nyako, rode their bicycles from Yola to Abuja to celebrate President Bola Tinubu’s midterm achievements.

Expressing admiration for their determination, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman for the North East, Comrade Mustapha Salihy, warmly welcomed the cyclists at the party’s National Secretariat on Thursday.

Salihy lauded the bikers for their resilience and courage to achieve what he thought was impossible.

“We did not plan it; it just so happened that we received information that two of our sons started the journey 12 to 13 days ago from Adamawa State on bicycles to come to Abuja so that they will celebrate the two years anniversary of Asiwaju.

“I was so skeptical that maybe they would not be able to get here, given the fact that we are talking about a whole day journey with a car. Then two young men on a bicycle, I said maybe they will give up when they get to Gombe or Bauchi and turn back. But because of their resilience and belief in the work of the president, they decided to show appreciation and support for the government,” Salihy said.

The APC stalwart noted that the cyclists’ journey was not just a personal achievement but a proof to the improvements in security and governance in the region.

“Despite all the turbulence, people are seeing improvement, and people still believe in this government, especially the young people from the northeast.

“This is one of just a small token of support that our people are showing to the government in return for the patronage and the support given to us by the government in the center,” he noted.

Speaking on behalf of the duo, Aliyu Mubi shared their motivation for the journey. “We did this in support and solidarity to Asiwaju’s government, given the fact that our lives have improved despite all the odds that people are saying,” he explained.

Mubi highlighted the significance of their ride, stating, “Years back, we dared not move like 100 kilometers on a bike from our places of residence, but because we are so confident that the security has improved, we decided to undertake this journey.”

Recounting their experiences along the way, he said, “We moved from Yola to this place on a bicycle, in the afternoon, morning, and night, and we did not encounter any kind of bandits or kidnappers. We were received in Gombe, Bauchi, Jos, and Keffi, and we have the videos to prove it.”

Despite the challenges they faced, including financial constraints and multiple flat tires, the biker said they remained optimistic.

“There was a shortage of money because we had limited resources when we were coming. Unfortunately, we kept getting busted tires and had to replace them. In the end, we became broke,” he admitted. However, he found encouragement in the support of fellow youths they met along the way.

“Most of the people that benefited from those programs accosted us on the road and were praying for the government,” he said.
