Customs Generates N3.7trn in Six Months, Surpasses 2025 Revenue Target by 12.5%

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Government has hailed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for generating N3.7 trillion in the first half of 2025, exceeding budgetary projections by 12.5% and surpassing last year’s performance by 25%.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this at the 62nd meeting of the NCS Board in Abuja.

He described the achievement as commendable, stressing that it reflects ongoing reforms in trade facilitation and revenue collection.

“Customs has performed remarkably well, but our work is far from done. We must deepen reforms to achieve the ambitious revenue goals set by this administration,” Edun said.

He revealed that central to these reforms is the National Single Window Initiative, a digital trade platform scheduled for full rollout in 2026. The platform, according to him, will eliminate bottlenecks in import and export processes, cut costs, reduce delays, and create a more competitive environment for businesses.

“The National Single Window will give Customs the speed and capacity to process trade more effectively, boosting revenue and positioning Nigeria as a more attractive hub for investment,” the Minister stated.

At the meeting, the Customs Board also approved governance improvements, including senior appointments and promotions, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and maintaining professional standards across the Service.

Edun noted that these measures align with President Bola Tinubu’s broader economic strategy of stabilising inflation, ensuring exchange rate stability, and creating a transparent, technology-driven trade ecosystem that fosters private sector investment and growth.
