FG Launches Revised PTAD Charter, Pledges Prompt Pension Payments

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to pension reforms and the welfare of senior citizens with the launch of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) Revised Service Charter.

The Charter, unveiled in Abuja yesterday, is themed “Renewed Commitment to Service Excellence” and sets out clear service standards, accountability measures, and feedback mechanisms to ensure quicker, more reliable, and people-centred services to pensioners nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, described the document as more than a policy guideline.

“The Service Charter is not just a document, it is a social contract that places pensioners’ welfare and public trust at the heart of service delivery,” she said.

The Minister linked the launch to President Bola Tinubu’s push to restore dignity to retirees, highlighting his recent approval of an over N800 billion bond programme to clear outstanding pension liabilities.

“We are taking decisive steps to ensure retirees are paid promptly and treated with dignity,” Uzoka-Anite assured.

She further commended PTAD’s management and staff for updating and expanding the Charter in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Together, we must build a pension system that guarantees fairness, reliability, and peace of mind for every pensioner,” the Minister stressed.

The Revised Charter focuses on four major improvements: performance metrics, quality commitment, stakeholder feedback, and accessibility.

PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, described the Charter as a covenant that defines the agency’s obligations to pensioners.

“It is a framework that spells out our service standards and accountability to those we serve,” she explained.

Stakeholders, including the National Pension Commission (PenCom), SERVICOM, and the Public Complaints Commission, lauded the initiative and urged PTAD to ensure robust implementation.

With the revised Service Charter, government officials say, Nigeria is taking a major step towards building a pension system that delivers fairness, reliability, and dignity to its senior citizens.
